Curt Slider Option For OEM 5th Wheel Prep Kit

Written by Hitchweb Team Thursday, November 3, 2016

Just bought a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD 6.5ft Bed with the factory prepped for 5th Wheel Assembly. Do you have a slider assembly hitch for this truck? I have the Curt 20K Curt 5th Wheel Hitch, but I want a slider option if available.

October 5, 2016, Curt Manufacturing confirmed that the GM OEM factory prep package roller / slider adapter is currently in the design and testing phase of development. Unfortunately no time line for release is available at this time.

The only suggestion we have at this time is to look in to adding a Reese Sidewinder or pin box extender to your set up to help with any cab clearance issues.  Please contact our team at 1-800-300-4067 for further assistance.

RV Towing Safe Following Distance

Written by Hitchweb Team Wednesday, November 2, 2016

What is a safe following distance while driving or towing an RV?

Towing or driving your RV will require you allow for much more following distance than when driving your every day car/truck/SUV. A standard follwing distance is normally 2 seconds between you and the vehicle in front of you, leaving for sufficient time to slow down/stop in a sudden braking situation. But even with the best brakes, it will take far longer to stop an RV or truck towing a heavy trailer.

GMC Sierra 5th Wheel Prep Kit

Written by Hitchweb Team Tuesday, November 1, 2016

How do I know if my 2016 GMC Sierra has the Factory 5th Wheel Prep Package?

The prep package sits tightly against the top of the frame and is welded to the side mounting brackets. 4 pucks in a square or rectangular pattern will be located in the bed of the truck - this is the prep kit.

OEM Compatible 5th Wheel Legs

Written by Hitchweb Team Monday, February 15, 2016

Is there a fifth wheel hitch compatible with the Chevrolet / GMC OEM prep package?

Message from Curt Manufacturing:

One of the exciting new features of 2016 Chevy and GMC pickup trucks is the puck system. Though previous models have been offered with a towing prep package, the 2016 package will include the 5th wheel / gooseneck mounting system built into the truck bed, similar to the Ford and Ram vehicles. Continuing to lead in first-to-market designs, CURT has introduced a new set of 5th wheel legs made specifically to fit GM trucks.

Like the Ford and Ram 5th wheel legs currently offered by CURT, the GM OEM-compatible legs streamline the setup process. Once bolted onto the 5th wheel hitch head, they easily drop into the truck bed mounting platform. They use a quarter-turn anchoring system for fast installation and removal, and the anchors can be adjusted to eliminate chucking between the legs and under-bed rails.

For maximum versatility within the CURT 5th wheel line, the OEM-compatible legs for GM feature a gross trailer weight capacity...
