What Is A Shank?

A shank is the hole in the ball mount that the trailer ball goes into. The shank size is determined by the trailer hitch class you are purchasing:

  • Class I & II: 3/4" Diameter
  • Class III & IV: 1" Diameter
  • Class IV & V: 1.25" Diameter
